Dr Stephen Nkem Asek
He has led the work of IGI in Cameroon since 2007. He is internationally recognised for his work with the UN and the African Union Commission on conflict analysis, peacebuilding, and the promotion of participatory democracy and transparency in Africa. His expertise in mediation, accountability, and strengthening democratic institutions, along with his commitment to community integrity in Cameroon, have made him a respected leader in the field.

The Public Expenditure and Budget Monitoring Support Program (2017): A vital initiative aimed at enhancing the transparency and efficiency of public spending, significantly contributing to improved governance and accountability in local government operations.

The Partnership with Municipal Authorities to Support Local Development – BMF (2016): A collaborative effort that united civil society and local governments, fostering community-led development and reinforcing principles of good governance at the municipal level.

Development of the BIPROMAP app: An innovative mobile application designed for the immediate reporting of corruption within the public sector. This tool has been instrumental in advancing transparency, bolstering accountability, and facilitating effective oversight of public expenditures.

The Fiscal Transparency, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption Support Project for Higher Education Institutions in Cameroon (2010): Launched by H.E. Jacque Fame Ndongo, Cameroon’s Minister of Higher Education, this pioneering project focused on enhancing the internal capacity of anti-corruption units within universities. By developing comprehensive tools and mechanisms, it has been effective in exposing financial mismanagement and ethical breaches, such as the exchange of sexual favors for grades, thereby setting a new standard for integrity and transparency in higher education.
Stephen has served as the Focal Point for the South West Region on Cameroon’s National Anti-Corruption Coalition under the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC) and as a member of the National Anti-Corruption Unit within the Ministry of Public Procurement of Cameroon.Stephen has also served on CONAC (the national anti-corruption commission) in South West Cameroon.
